Second-seeded Yuya Ito and Christian Sigsgaard beat sixth-seeded Ryan Dickerson and Matias Soto of Baylor 6-3, 7-6 (2) Monday to win the doubles final of the ITA Texas Regionals in Waco.
The win secured a spot for the UT team in the ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 7-10 in Newport Beach, Calif. Ito had already qualified in singles after winning the ITA All-American last week.
Ito and Sigsgaard beat Jackson Cobb and Ilgiz Valiev of Texas Tech in the quarterfinals and Constantin Frantzen and Sven Lah of Baylor in the semifinals to reach the title match. Texas’ Chih Chi Huang and Cleeve Harper lost in the quarterfinals to Frantzen and Lah.
In singles, UT’s Siem Woldeab beat Luc Fomba of TCU in the round of 16 but then fell to Texas A&M’s Valentin Vacherot, and teammate Jacob Bullard lost to Lah in the round of 16. Texas’ Eshan Talluri dropped his consolation round of 16 match to Alejandro Hayen of UT-Arlington.
