Posted November 9th, 2019

Top seed Yuya Ito won Saturday at the ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Calif. to advance to the final.

Ito defeated Valentin Vacherot of Texas A&M 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. He’ll face Damon Kesaris of Saint Mary’s Sunday at 3 p.m.

The win makes it two singles national finals he’ll play in after taking the title at the ITA All-American Championships in October.

The Texas senior also won the ITA National Fall Championships Sportsmanship Award.

Ito won twice on Friday to advance to the semifinals. He defeated No. 49 Adrian Boitan of Baylor 7-6 (6), 6-3 in the round of 16. He then topped ninth-ranked Jack Lin of Columbia 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Christian Sigsgaard also won in the round of 16 Friday, but an injury kept him from playing in the quarterfinals.
