The No. 4 Longhorns earned a Top 25 win, defeating No. 16 UCLA 4-2 Friday at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis.
The win advances Texas to the quarterfinals for the second year in a row.
Christian Sigsgaard, ranked No. 12, clinched it with a 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-2 win over No. 10 Govind Nanda.
Texas will take on No. 13 Michigan on Saturday morning.
“It was a very good team win,” head coach Bruce Berque said. “Obviously, UCLA is another blue blood tennis program, so we have a lot of respect for them.”
Texas trailed by two points before four straight singles wins took it over the top.
UCLA took the doubles point with Cleeve Harper and Yuya Ito the only Texas pair to come up with a win.
Harper earned the Longhorns’ first point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Eric Hahn.
Eliot Spizzirri tied the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ben Goldberg.
Ito, ranked second nationally, took Texas to the brink of victory with a 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-1 win over No. 6 Keegan Smith.
