Texas men’s tennis falls to No. 5 after ITA National Indoor Championships

The Texas men’s tennis team dropped out of the No. 1 spot after falling to Michigan at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Saturday.

The Oracle/ITA rankings, released on Tuesday, had Texas at No. 5, making it 17 straight weeks that Texas has been in the top five.

Michigan moved from No. 13 to No. 4 in the newest set of rankings.


Texas had wins over No. 16 UCLA and No. 8 Stanford at the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Yuya Ito stayed at the No. 2 spot in singles rankings. Christian Sigsgaard moved to No. 6 from No. 12. Siem Woldeab dropped to No. 45 from No. 37.

Ito also was honored as the Big 12 player of the week Tuesday. The honor breaks a Big 12 record. Ito has been named Big 12 player of the week seven times in his career.
