Texas soccer moves up in rankings, freshman earns honor

The Texas soccer team moved up in three major polls this week, reaching as high as No. 11.

Soccer America ranks Texas at No. 11 with Top Drawer Soccer putting Texas at No. 18. The United Soccer Coaches listing also has the Longhorns at No. 18.

Texas is undefeated through five games, including a draw with North Carolina which was ranked No. 4 at the time. The Longhorns also have a 2-1 overtime win over a No. 23-ranked Central Florida.


Most recently, Texas dominated Stephen F. Austin 5-0 Sunday.

Cyera Hintzen has five goals through five games and Katie Glenn leads the team with four assists.

Nicole Curry has yet to lose in goal for the Longhorns with a .824 save percentage. Opponents have managed just three goals against Curry this season.

Freshman Mackenzie McFarland earned the honor of Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. McFarland scored on her first career shot to help the Longhorns defeat Long Beach State Thursday.

Texas returns to action Friday against Texas State at 6 p.m. at Myers Stadium. The Longhorn Network will air the game.
