Longhorns soccer squad scores late to beat Iowa State

Posted October 5th, 2018

A late goal by Kayra Dollas propelled the Longhorns soccer team to a 2-1 win over Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, on Friday afternoon.

Dollas connected on a chance in the 87th minute to help Texas bounce back from its first Big 12 loss last weekend at TCU.

Cyera Hintzen assisted on the winning goal 72 minutes after giving the Longhorns (10-1-2, 2-1-1 Big 12) a 1-0 lead. She scored unassisted to bring her total to 10 goals on the season.

Hintzen’s goal was an outstanding effort from more than 30 yards away into the upper right corner of the net in the 15th minute.

“Cyera Hintzen’s goal once again, I feel like it’s a broken record, but what a special player,” Texas coach Angela Kelly said on the team’s Twitter page.

With the game tied 1-1, a lightning delay in the 41st minute sent both teams seeking cover in the locker rooms. More than 40 minutes later they resumed play, finishing off the four minutes of the first half and getting right into the second half with no break.

“It was going to take somebody to figure out a way to get it by one of their players,” Kelly said of Dollas’ goal. “We had good possession and she took her chance and that’s just fantastic.”

The Longhorns soccer team next will take on West Virginia on the road Sunday at noon.
