UT soccer team falls at Colorado

23rd-ranked Buffaloes pull the upset against No. 11 Texas.

Texas’ potential tying penalty kick with one second left in regulation hit the underside of the crossbar and was cleared away to secure Colorado’s 2-1 victory over the Longhorns on Sunday in Boulder, Colo.

The victory boosted the 23rd-ranked Buffaloes to 4-0. No. 11 Texas is 1-2.

The teams played a scoreless first half, but Colorado got on the board quickly in the second half on Tessa Barton’s 14-yard shot 1:47 after play resumed.


The Buffaloes stretched the margin at 62:03 as Stephanie Zuniga beat UT goalkeeper Savannah Madden from 10 yards away.

The Longhorns narrowed the gap on a goal by Julia Grosso at 72:29 but could not get the equalizer.

Next up for Texas is a trip to Nacogdoches to face Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. Friday.
