The Texas softball team will be at full strength in the circle when the 2017 season begins in February.

Redshirt sophomore Erica Wright will return after missing the entire 2016 season with a rib injury. Wright’s return gives the Longhorns (38-16 in 2016) a viable fourth option in their pitching rotation, which also includes senior Tiarra Davis and juniors Kristen Clark and Paige von Sprecken.  The Huntington native hasn’t seen action in the circle since her freshman campaign where she compiled a 18-9 record with a 2.42 earned run average and 178 strikeouts.  Wright earned first-team All-Big 12 and NFCA All-Central Region honors as a freshman.

Fans and coach Connie Clark will be able to see how far Wright has come when the Longhorns (38-16 in 2016) open their fall season on Oct. 13 against NCAA Division II St. Edwards at McCombs Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Longhorns will also travel to San Antonio for a pair of games against UT-San Antonio on Nov. 4-5. Game times are 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and noon on Nov. 5.

Texas returns five starters from last  year’s season including seniors Stephanie Wong, Devon Tunning, Kelli Hanzel and Celina Felix, along with Davis. Also returning is power-hitting sophomore Reagan Hathaway, who belted 12 extra-base hits en route to a .309 batting average as a freshman.

The Longhorns will also field five freshman including infielder Malory Schattle, outfielder Tuesday DerMargosian, shortstop Jade Gortearez, infielder Kaitlyn Slack and first baseman Kaitlyn Washington.
