Five pitchers combined to allow just two hits as the Texas Longhorns softball team defeated McNeese State 4-0 at McCombs Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Bekah Alcozer hit a home run while Randel Leahy, Celina Felix and Jade Gortarez each drove in runs to spark the UT offense.
Paige von Sprecken earned the win, allowing no runs on no hits through two innings. Four other pitchers took the mound for Texas as all 20 players on the roster got into the game Wednesday.
Erica Wright got the start and allowed one hit in two innings while striking out three. Tiarra Davis got an inning’s worth of work, allowing one hit in the process. Kristen Clark pitched a perfect fourth inning while Brooke Bolinger had a walk and one strikeout in an inning of work.
Texas scored three of its four runs in the first inning, beginning with a two-out double by Leahy. Back-to-back singles by Felix and Gortarez produced two more runs for Texas.
Devon Tunning was 2 for 3 with a run scored and was the only Longhorn to have a multi-hit game.
Alcozer capped the day with a pinch hit solo home run, her fourth homer of the season, in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The win makes it three in a row for the Longhorns softball team as they get set to face Oklahoma State in Stillwater for the Big 12 opener on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
