Kelsey McFarland hit a home run off Erica Wright that proved to be the game-winner as the Iowa State Cyclones defeated the Texas Longhorns 2-1 in a Big 12 softball contest at McCombs Field on Friday.
The loss halted a three-game conference winning streak for the Longhorns (24-19, 3-7).
Emma Hylen (3-7) took the win, allowing one run on five hits through seven innings.
Wright (4-5) was hit with the loss as she allowed two runs on six hits through five innings. She struck out four and didn’t allow a walk.
McFarland finished the game 1 for 3, with her homer coming in the fourth inning. Kirsten Caudle was 1 for 2 with a triple and a run scored for Iowa State (17-31, 2-11).
Caudle tied the game when she crossed home plate in the third on a sacrifice fly by Sami Williams.
The Longhorns’ lone run came in the first inning when Celina Felix singled to score Devon Tunning, who also had singled.
Texas and Iowa State will resume the three-game series at 1 p.m. on Saturday at McCombs Field. The game will air on the Longhorn Network and can be heard on 105.3.
