After a rare loss to Iowa State on Friday, the Texas softball team bounced back with a 7-1 win Saturday at McCombs Field.
Tiarra Davis (6-8) allowed one run on just two hits through six innings. She struck out three and walked five.
The Longhorns (25-19, 4-7 Big 12) scored three runs in back-to-back innings to take control.
Kaitlyn Washington was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs. Randel Leahy and Kelli Hanzel each had two RBIs, and Celina Felix and Taylor Ellsworth drove in a run apiece.
Washington scored UT’s first run on a single by Leahy in the third inning. Ellsworth and Leahy scored on a double by Hanzel later in the inning.
Texas added an unearned run in the next inning when Kaitlyn Slack walked, stole second and scored on two throwing errors. Leahy and Ellsworth had RBI singles later in the inning to make it 6-0.
Brianna Weilbacher (9-14) took the loss for Iowa State (17-32, 2-12), allowing seven runs on 10 hits through six innings.
Texas closes out the series with Iowa State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
