Tiarra Davis pitched a complete game as she and the Longhorns softball team shut out the Kansas Jayhawks 2-0 to complete a sweep of Friday’s doubleheader in Lawrence, Kan.
Davis (7-8) allowed just three hits as she struck out nine to earn the win.
Stephanie Wong doubled in the fifth to drive home the only run the Longhorns (28-20, 6-8 Big 12) needed on the night. Kelli Hanzel scored on the play.
Mickenzi Krpec had the only other RBI in the game as she hit a sacrifice fly to plate Bekah Alcozer, adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Alexis Reid (14-17) was hit with the loss for Kansas (24-25, 3-11) as she allowed two runs on five hits through seven innings.
In the first game of the day, Celina Felix and Alcozer each homered as the Longhorns topped Kansas 10-0 in five innings.
Erica Wright (6-5) allowed just one hit to earn the win for Texas. The Longhorns had 13 hits in the game.
Felix was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Alcozer finished 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kaitlyn Washington, Taylor Ellsworth and Randel Leahy added two RBIs apiece. Washington had two doubles, and Ellsworth and Leahy each had one double.
Sarah Miller (4-5) took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits through 1 2/3 innings.
The Longhorns softball team will wrap up the series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
