Texas softball squad overpowered by No. 3 Oregon

Posted February 16th, 2018

The Texas softball team ran into stiff competition Friday, falling to the No. 3 Oregon Ducks 8-0 in five innings at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in Mexico.

The run-rule victory moved the Ducks to 9-0 this season, dropping Texas to 3-4.

Jenna Lilley was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs to lead the Ducks. DJ Sanders went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two walks. She also drove in a run. Mary Iakopo doubled and had an RBI.

Texas managed just three hits as Miranda Elish dominated from the mound to pick up her third win. She had seven strikeouts and no walks in the win.

Janae Jeffeson, Paige von Sprecken and Kaitlyn Slack each had a hit in the contest for Texas. Jefferson tied the record for longest hitting streak to begin a career at Texas. Her seven straight games with a hit tied Stephanie Ceo who accomplished the feat in 2013.

After a scoreless first inning, Oregon scored five runs in the second to take full control of the game.

Sanders homered to make it 1-0 before an RBI single by Alexis Mack. Lilley doubled to score two more runs before a wild pitch added another.

Brooke Bolinger was hit with the loss, allowing five runs on three hits. She walked three and gave up two extra-base hits.
