Janae Jefferson and Kaitlyn Slack each had two hits and two RBIs as the Longhorns defeated Houston 7-3 to close out the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico on Saturday.
Texas (4-4) trailed 2-0 in the second inning before scoring seven runs over the next three frames to take control of the game.
Erica Wright (1-2) picked up her first win of the season, allowing three runs on eight hits in her complete-game effort. She struck out five and didn’t allow a walk.
Jefferson has had a hit in eight straight games to start her career, setting a new UT record. She surpassed Stephanie Ceo’s mark of seven games set in 2013. Jefferson is hitting .522 with 12 hits and seven RBIs in her young career.
Kaitlyn Washington went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Tuesday DerMargosian went 2-for-4 and crossed home plate twice.
Ki’Audra Hayter had an RBI for Texas while Bekah Alcozer went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Savannah Heebner (2-1) took the loss for Houston (4-4), allowing seven runs on 11 hits. Just three of those runs were earned as Houston committed three errors.
The Longhorns will attempt to go above .500 when they host No. 4 Washington on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
