The Longhorns softball team bounced back from an opening loss at the College of Charleston tournament by taking two wins over Jacksonville State and the host school. The Longhorns defeated Jacksonville State 4-2 early Saturday before topping the College of Charleston 1-0.
Paige von Sprecken (4-5) led the Longhorns in the circle, earning a complete-game shutout in the second game. She gave up seven hits, struck out two and walked one.
A pinch-hit triple by Randel Leahy proved to be the winning hit as Kaitlyn Washington scored in the top of the seventh.
Janae Jefferson and Tayler Ellsworth each had two hits for Texas. Malory Schattle doubled for the Longhorns (12-12).
Early Saturday, Chloe Romero picked up her first win and Ellsworth drove in two runs to lift the Longhorns over Jacksonville State.
Romero allowed two runs on six hits in four innings. She struck out three and walked one in her first win as a Longhorn.
Ellsworth went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. MK Tedder also doubled for Texas as she went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Jefferson drove in a run in the second inning on an RBI single.
