The Texas softball team finally fell in Big 12 action as Baylor won in a 3-0 shutout at McCombs Field on Tuesday.
Gia Rodoni went the distance for Baylor, allowing just three hits while striking out eight.
Paige von Sprecken took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits.
“It’s a tough one tonight,” UT head coach Connie Clark said. “We thought we had a pretty decent game plan coming in against Rodoni, but we were guessing at the plate. Now we’ve got to move forward. Obviously, we’ll go to their place in a few weeks, and we’re going to have to solve her to get at Baylor.
Jessie Scroggins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Carlee Wallace also went 2-for-4 for the Bears. Taylor Ellis went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Nicky Dawson and Hannah Smith each scored runs for Baylor.
The Bears scored all of their runs in the third inning and Texas couldn’t dig out of the hole.
Janae Jefferson, Kaitlyn Slack and Ki’Audra Hayter each went 1-for-3 for the Longhorns.
Before the loss, the Texas softball team was off to its best start in conference since 2011.
The Texas softball team next hosts a series with Oklahoma State beginning Friday at 4:30 p.m. It will be the final Big 12 series played at McCombs Field in the regular season.
