The Baylor Bears scored six runs in their final two innings to take a 7-5 win over the Texas softball team in Waco on Saturday night.
Goose McGlaun hit two home runs to lead the Baylor offense. She went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Jessie Scroggins also hit a home run, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Gia Rodoni earned the win despite giving up five runs to the Horns (30-22, 10-7 Big 12). She surrendered five hits and struck out two in five innings to improve to 21-9.
Brooke Bolinger (12-7) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits through 4 1/3 innings.
The fifth inning proved to be costly for Texas. Taylor Ellis doubled to score Madi O’Neal to give Baylor (34-14, 11-6) a 2-1 lead. Scroggins and McGlaun each homered later in the inning to put the Bears up 6-1.
Texas rallied in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, but it wasn’t enough as Regan Green nailed down the save in two innings of work.
Paige von Sprecken went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Texas. Taylor Ellsworth also doubled and had an RBI. Ki’Audra Hayter went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a triple. Janae Jefferson and MK Tedder each scored and drove in a run.
The Texas softball team will try to split the two-game set on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
