SEATTLE – Kaitlyn Slack’s RBI blooper to right field in the top of the sixth put Texas on top for good as the Longhorns battled through a pitching duel in their 2-1 win over Minnesota at the NCAA regional in Seattle Friday.

Texas advances to the winner’s bracket of the regional, and will play the winner of No. 5 Washington and Boise State at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Paige von Sprecken (12-11) outdueled Minnesota’s ace Amber Fise (26-9), who left the circle in the fourth inning after giving up an earned run.

MK Tedder’s RBI blooper to left field put the Longhorns (33-24) on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Gophers (39-16) tied it up after von Sprecken put runners on first and third after giving up a walk and a single. The Gophers’ MaKenna Partain’s RBI groundout to second tied the game at a run apiece.

Kaitlyn Washington reached second base in the top of the sixth on an infield single and a Tedder sacrifice grounder to third. Slack’s blooper to shallow right field scored Washington who came streaking around third base and easily beat the throw to home.
