The No. 9 Texas softball team used a four-run third inning to pick up its eighth straight win, defeating Wisconsin 5-1 at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday.
Bekah Alcozer and Miranda Elish each doubled and homered on the way to moving the Longhorns to 14-1 on the season. Alcozer went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Elish went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Brooke Bolinger earned the complete-game win, allowing one run on four hits while striking out 10. She didn’t allow a hit until the Badgers had two outs in the fifth inning. The loss is just the second on the year for Wisconsin (14-2).
Kayla Konwent hit a home run for the Badgers in the sixth for their only run.
Texas scored its first run in the second inning when Ki’Audra Hayter tripled to drive home Alcozer.
An inning later, Lauren Burke hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Janae Jefferson to make it 2-0. Back-to-back home runs for the Longhorns followed. Alcozer’s two-run shot made it 4-0 before Elish’s solo homer capped the scoring for Texas.
The Longhorns next take on the tournament hosts at 6 p.m. Friday.
