Led by first-team picks Janae Jefferson and Miranda Elish, a quintet of Longhorns were recognized on Wednesday as the Big 12 revealed its 2019 honor roll.
A sophomore second baseman, Jefferson currently leads Texas in batting average (.415) and runs scored (35). Big 12 coaches have twice voted her onto the first team of the all-conference team.
Elish is 14-8 with a 1.71 ERA and a conference-high 188 strikeouts. Elish, a junior who was an all-conference pitcher at Oregon last year, is also hitting .330 with six homers, 25 RBIs and 21 runs.
Additionally on Wednesday, catcher Mary Iakopo, pitcher Shea O’Leary and outfielder Kaitlyn Washington earned second-team nods on the all-conference team. O’Leary was also a unanimous selection to the Big 12’s all-freshman team.
O’Leary leads the nation with her 0.48 ERA and she threw a perfect game against Baylor on March 27. Washington has received all-conference recognition during each of her three years on campus. In addition to hitting .374 this spring, Iakopo’s nine homers are the most for a Longhorn since 2016.
Ranked eighth in the NFCA poll, Texas will be the third seed in the Big 12’s annual tournament. UT (41-12; 12-6) is set to battle both Oklahoma State (37-14; 13-5) and Iowa State (31-22; 7-11) in Oklahoma City on Friday.
