A three-run fourth inning helped the No. 6 Texas softball team take a 4-0 win over California Baptist at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico on Thursday.
Unlike the Longhorns’ first six wins, all run-rule victories, this one against the Lancers took seven innings.
Courtney Day recorded the shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out four in seven innings.
An RBI single by Colleen Sullivan brought the first run home for Texas in the second inning. Courtney Day scored after hitting a double to get on base.
A two-out double by Lauren Burke sparked the Longhorns in the fourth inning. Reagan Hathaway followed with a double that scored Burke and Tuesday DerMargosian.
Another double by Janae Jefferson drove home Hathaway in the next at-bat.
Texas is next schedule to play two games, against Utah and Tennessee, on Friday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
