The Texas softball team didn’t score as many runs as usual, but it still edged Liberty 2-0 in the Longhorn Invitational at McCombs Field on Friday.
Miranda Elish pitched the shutout, allowing just four hits in the complete game. She struck out four and improved to 10-3 on the season.
Janae Jefferson went 3-for-3 with an RBI while Kaitlyn Washington went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run. Taylor Ellsworth went 2-for-3.
The Longhorns (21-3) plated both of their runs in the fourth. Washington doubled to drive home Shannon Rhodes, and Jefferson singled to drive home Washington.
In the invitational’s opener, Texas Southern beat New Mexico 3-0.
Liberty (8-12) took a 13-0 win over Texas Southern in five innings before the game against Texas.
