The Texas softball team took two wins Saturday during the Texas Invitational at McCombs Field.

In the first game, Texas blasted four home runs on the way to a 13-5, six-inning win over Texas Southern. The Longhorns then topped Liberty 3-0 in another close game with the squad at the invitational.

Texas pitcher Shea O’Leary pitched a complete-game shutout to take the win over Liberty. The Longhorns (23-3) beat the Lady Flames (9-13) 2-0 in their first matchup at the invitational on Friday.

O’Leary gave up just four hits and struck out four in seven innings.

Taylor Ellsworth went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Mary Iakopo and Kaitlyn Washington each had a hit and scored a run.

A ground out by Shannon Rhodes scored Iakopo in the second inning before Ellsworth singled to drive home Washington.

Texas added another run in the fifth on a throwing error that allowed Camille Corona to score.

Lauren Burke went 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead the offensive attack against Texas Southern. Janae Jefferson also went 2-for-2, hitting a home run, scoring twice and driving home two.

Iakopo also hit a home run as she went 2-for-3. She scored twice and drove in two runs.

Courtney Day doubled twice as she went 3-for-4 and had two RBIs. Day also picked up the win in the circle, moving to 5-0. She gave up just three hits and struck out four in 4 1/3 innings as a reliever.

Ariana Adams had a rough start for Texas, giving up three runs on two hits while allowing two walks in 1 2/3 innings.

After Texas took a 2-0 lead on Burke’s first home run in the first inning, Texas Southern (8-12) scored five runs in the second to take the lead.

A solo shot by Iakopo made it 5-3 in the bottom of the second before Burke’s second homer tied the game.

A two-run double by Day in the fourth capped a three-run inning for the Longhorns, giving them an 8-5 lead.

Texas added five more runs over the next two innings, capped by Grace Green’s first career home run, to take the run-rule win.

The Texas softball team next faces New Mexico at 9:30 a.m. to close out their Texas Invitational action.
