Texas freshman Jordan Windle won the national title in men’s platform diving Sunday with the top finish by an American at the USA Diving Winter National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Windle’s total of 1,263.5 points put him in second place through the preliminary, semifinal and final rounds. Colin Zeng of China was the top scorer with 1,283.55 points.
Windle, who twice has qualified for the World Championships, recorded his second senior-level national title of the year in the platform event. He also won it at the USA Diving National Diving Championships last summer.
Jacob Cornish, a UT sophomore, also made the finals in the platform. His 890.32 points left him in eighth place.
Two divers competed for the Longhorns on Sunday in the women’s 3-meter final. Murphy Bromberg, a redshirt junior, took sixth place with 741.60 points. Junior Meghan O’Brien was ninth with 736.50 points.
The USA Diving Winter National Championships continue Monday and Tuesday with synchronized competition on the 3-meter board and the platform.
