Texas women’s golf tied for eighth after regional opening round

Sophia Schubert shot a 71 to finish at 1-under par for the opening round of the NCAA Lubbock Regional on Monday.

The junior made three-straight pars before making her birdie putt on the par-3 No. 6 hole. She finished the front nine at even par.

On the back nine, she birdied No. 10 and No. 12, but then had her third bogey of the day before closing the round at 1-under.


Schubert enters Tuesday’s second round tied for fourth overall behind leader Lila Vu of UCLA, who finished at 4-under par, Oregon’s Cathleen Santoso (-3) and Pimnipa Panthong (-2) of Kent State.

The 22nd-ranked Texas women’s golf team is tied for eighth place with Furman after a collective score of 300 (12-over par). Arizona State is the team leader after a first-day 293.

Oregon is second with a score of 294 while Texas Tech and UCLA are tied for third after a first-round 296.

Haley Mills and Julia Beck are tied for 36th place after rounds of 76, followed by Emilee Hoffman, who shot a 77 and is tied for 55th place. Greta Isabella Voelker shot a 81, putting her at 80th place overall.

The second round will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Rawls Golf Course.
