Longhorns tennis players earn berths for NCAA Championships

Six members of the Longhorns tennis teams earned berths for the NCAA Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Longhorns sophomore twin sisters Bianca and Anna Turati earned berths to the singles draw.

The 64-player competition begins May 23 at Wake Forest. The NCAA will release matchups for the first round later this month.


Bianca Turati is the top-ranked player in the ITA national singles rankings and hasn’t lost since Feb. 11. Anna Turati is riding a 12-match winning streak. It’s the first time the No. 29 sophomore has earned a berth to the NCAA Championships.

Petra Granic, the No. 72 UT sophomore, is the sixth alternate for the singles draw. She carries a 15-match winning streak into the event.

On the men’s side, Texas earned a singles and a doubles berth for the NCAA Championships.

Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles, both juniors, earned a berth for the 32-team doubles draw of the NCAA Championships. Yuya Ito earned a berth for the singles competition.

It’s the second year in a row that Ito has qualified for the tournament. He’s 16-7 in singles action this year.

The No. 10 Texas duo of Banzer and Telles is 20-11 overall this season.
