A pair of Longhorns tennis players earned Big 12 honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Yuya Ito earned the honor of Big 12 men’s tennis player of the week while Bianca Turati accomplished the same feat for the women.
It’s the second week in a row that Ito has earned the honor. Turati led Texas to three dual-match wins last week.
The Texas men went 1-1 last week, with Ito winning both of his singles matches against top-20 opponents. He’s 17-1 this season in dual-match singles contests and has won seven straight.
Turati beat No. 54 Asuka Kawai of Illinois and No. 23 Anastasia Rychagova of Kansas to highlight her week.
Ito defeated No. 16 Jack Lin of Columbia in straight sets before topping No. 10 Daniel Cukierman of Southern Cal, also in straight sets, last week.
Ito’s play has helped the Longhorns to a No. 3 ranking and a 17-2 record. The Texas women are 9-3 in dual-match play with a 2-0 record in the Big 12.
