The Texas Longhorns released their 2016 volleyball schedule on Thursday, revealing that they’ll open their season at Oregon and will face the defending national champion Nebraska Cornhuskers in the second game of the year.
The Longhorns will face nine teams that received votes in the final poll of the 2015 season. It was a season in which they reached the NCAA title game only to fall to Nebraska in three sets.
Texas will take on Oregon in Eugene on Friday, Aug. 27 and will face Nebraska the next day, also in Eugene, Ore.
The Longhorns will host a tournament at Gregory Gym beginning on Thursday, Sept. 1, featuring Lipscomb, UTSA, Miami and Army.
The Texas A&M Aggies will visit Austin on Sept. 14 for a midweek rivalry matchup with the Longhorns. The two teams haven’t met since the Longhorns defeated the Aggies 3-1 (25-14, 25-18, 15-25, 25-19) in the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2013.
Before the Longhorns begin their conference schedule they’ll host Wisconsin, which ended last season ranked No. 10, on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Texas opens Big 12 play on the road against West Virginia on Sept. 20 and ends the season hosting the Mountaineers on Saturday, Nov. 26.
