Texas junior Joyner Holmes has been added to the watch list for the 2019 Cheryl Miller Award, the school announced Wednesday.
Holmes is among 20 players named to the watch list. The award goes to the top small forward in women’s NCAA Division I basketball.
Named for the three-time Naismith Player of the Year, the award goes to a player selected by a committee comprised of media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The watch list narrows to 10 players by mid-February. Five finalists will be announced in March and presented to Miller and the selection committee. Fans will also have a say, voting for their favorite finalist at hoophallawards.com.
The winner will be announced during the Women’s Final Four on an ESPN platform.
Holmes started nine games as a sophomore and averaged 6.8 points per game to go with 6 rebounds per contest. She scored double digits in 10 games and had one double-double after missing the fall semester due to a university violation.
Holmes was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year two seasons ago after averaging 12.1 points per game and 8.2 rebounds.
