The Texas women’s golf team, led by Julia Beck’s first round 70, shot a team total of 293 (+5) to sit in a tie for eighth place after the first round of the NCAA Regional in Bryan on Thursday.
Beck’s 2-under-par score at Traditions Golf Club was good enough for a tie for seventh place, three shots behind leader Bianca Pagdanganan of Gonzaga. Beck had one bogey on the day and made four birdies out of five holes on the back nine.
Georgia leads in the team standings, ahead of Texas by nine strokes, having shot 284 (-4) after the first round.
Haley Mills is tied for 28th place having shot 73 (+1), including three birdies in a row at one point.
Sophia Schubert and Natalie Karcher are tied for 46th place at 3-over after the first round. Schubert was named to the All-Big 12 team on Wednesday by virtue of having four top-five finishes to lead Texas. She made three birdies on the day.
Tezira Abe shot a 79 to finish in a tie for 79th place.
Texas will tee off for the second round on Friday at 8 a.m. with Texas A&M and TCU.
