Posted October 25th, 2016

Greta Volker, a freshman golfer at Texas, tied a school record as she shot a 65 in the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate on Tuesday.

Volker’s 7-under round helped the Longhorns finish in a tie for fourth place at 561, 15-under while the freshman finished second overall. Her 136, 8-under finish was just one shot behind medalist Amy Lee of Baylor. The Bears took the team title as they finished ten strokes ahead of Texas.

“Today’s round was fun. My wedge game was really on point and my putter came through,” Volker said.

Emilee Hoffman set the Texas women’s record earlier this season and finished tied for 15th as she shot 4-under for the tournament. She shot a 70 on Tuesday as she third top-15 finish of the season. Volker finished in the top-15 in all five tournaments of the fall.

“Overall, this fall was solid and we haven’t even scratched the surface of what we are capable of,” head coach Ryan Murphy said. “I look forward to watching this team get better and better.”

Julia Beck finished in a tie for 21st after shooting a 72 on Tuesday. She was 3-under overall for her second-lowest finish of the season.

Sophia Schubert was even for the tournament and tied for 49th while Haley Mills tied for 65th as she finished 3-over par.

Dominique Galloway competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 28th at 2-under par. It was her best collegiate round.
