The Texas women’s golf team is tied for 13th after Friday’s first round of the NCAA Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Tough conditions, including high winds, had Texas shoot 317, 29 over par. They’re tied with Michigan State and trail first place Northwestern by 17 strokes.
Emilee Hoffman had the best round of the day for Texas, firing a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 13th. She had the most pars, 13, in the field.
Sophia Schubert shot 77, 5 over par to tie for 19th.
The rest of the Longhorns struggled. Julia Beck and Greta Isabella Voelker each shot 82 to tie for 80th while Haley Milles sits tied for 93rd at 11 over par.
August Kim of Purdue and Elodie Van Dievoet of Michigan were even on the day to tie for first place.
Texas will tee off with Baylor and California at noon on Saturday.
