The No. 7 Trojans defeated the fifth-ranked Longhorns to win the March Mayhem match play championship 5-0 in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Wednesday.
The Texas women’s golf team fell to a team that has won the championship in five of the six years of the event. It was Southern California’s third straight match play championship.
Texas finished stroke play in second after shooting 297, 9 over par. They defeated San Diego State 3.5-1.5 before topping Iowa State 4.5-0.5 to advance to the championship match.
“It was a great week for us,” UT head coach Ryan Murphy said. “We played some nice golf and received some good match-play experience that will prepare us for May. All in all, I’m happy with everyone’s efforts this week.”
Jennifer Chang, ranked 23rd in the nation, defeated UT’s Kaitlyn Papp 2 and 1.
No. 68 Allisen Corpuz topped Emilee Hoffman 2 and 1 as well.
Alyaa Abdulghany, ranked 54th, defeated Greta Isabella Voelker 2 and 1.
Gabi Ruffels bested Agathe Laisne 1 up while Amelia Garvey defeated Maddie Luitwieler 1 up as well.
Texas closes the regular season with the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., beginning April 8.
