Kaitlyn Papp qualifies for U.S. Women’s Open

Posted May 2nd, 2019

Texas golfer Kaitlyn Papp qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open following sectional qualifying on Thursday in Richardson, Texas.

Papp finished atop the leader board at Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson. She shot 140, 2 under par through 36 holes to qualify.

The 74th U.S. Women’s open begins May 29 and runs through June 2 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.

Before Papp takes her shot at the U.S. Open, she and the Longhorns begin action at the NCAA regional.

The women’s golf team will compete at the NCAA Norman Regional as the top seed beginning May 6 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

The second-ranked Longhorns are a No. 1 seed, along with Duke, Southern Cal and Stanford.

Texas earned the top seed at the regional in Oklahoma after winning the Big 12 Championship tournament for the third year in a row. The Longhorns won the team title by a record 37 strokes and had the top four individual finishers as well.

Should Texas advance to the NCAA Championships, it would be fourth straight trip and the 28th in program history. Last season UT tied for 12th at the tournament.
