UT women’s golf team tied for third in NCAA regional

Longhorns are at 287, three shots off the lead.

Texas is in a four-way tie for third place after Monday’s opening round of NCAA Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The second-ranked Longhorns are at 287 — along with Texas Tech, Mississippi and Mississippi State — three shots behind No. 10 Florida and two behind North Carolina State.

UT’s Kaitlyn Papp and Agathe Laisne are tied for 13th in the individual standings at 1-under-par 71. Sára Kousková is at even par, tied for 24th; and Hailee Cooper is at 1 over, tied for 34th. Emilee Hoffman is tied for 64th at 4 over.


The Longhorns were second-best in the field with 63 total pars, and they also recorded 10 birdies. Kousková and Papp had back-to-back eagles on the par-4 ninth hole.

It was Papp’s 16th round this season at par or better, Laisne’s 13th and Kousková’s 12th.

Michaela Fletcher of Memphis sits atop the field with a 4-under-par 68. Four golfers are tied for second, one shot behind: Sofia Garcia of Texas Tech, Olivia Mehaffey of Arizona State, Laura Kowohl of North Carolina State and Sierra Brooks of Florida.

The top six teams from each of the four 54-hole regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship at Fayetteville, Ark., May 17-22.
