Breaunna Addison pulled off an upset on Friday as she defeated Ohio State’s third-seeded Francesca Di Lorenzo to advance to the women’s NCAA singles quarterfinals in Tulsa, Okla.
The senior All-American defeated Di Lorenzo 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 for her second trip to the NCAA singles quarterfinals. Addison made it all the way to the semifinals as a freshman in 2013. She’s set to face Sinead Lohan, the eighth-seeded player from Miami.
A second-set tiebreaker helped Addison hold off elimination before she finished Di Lorenzo off in the final set.
“I started off a little slow, and I wasn’t really settled down,” Addison said. “She had a match point in the second set, but I fought it off. You just never know what can happen.”
Down 5-4 in the second set, Addison was able to break serve to tie the set before she forced the tiebreaker.
Later in the day Addison joined Dani Wagland to face Alexandra Osborne and Ebony Panoho of Arizona State in the round of 16 of the women’s doubles draw. It took a super tiebreaker, but the Texas duo eventually fell, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).
