Posted March 4th, 2017

Despite falling 4-2 to No.  16 Stanford, the Texas women’s tennis team notched a couple of significant singles wins in the process in Stanford, Calif. Saturday.

Two wins by Texas freshmen highlighted the day for the Longhorns.

Petra Granic scored a huge upset win over No. 8 Melissa Lord, winning 7-5, 6-3 to tie the match at 2-2.

Bianca Turati, ranked 39th, also recorded a win, defeating No. 65 Taylor Davidson 6-3, 6-4. It was her fourth win over a ranked opponent and her fifth straight singles victory.

With inclement weather threatening competition, the teams elected to play singles matches before any potential doubles action.

Emma Higuchi defeated Daniella Roldan 6-1, 6-0 to put Stanford up 1-0.

Caroline Lampl made it 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Anna Turati.

After Texas won the next two singles matches, Stanford took two more wins to close out the match. The teams chose not to play doubles with the match already clinched.

The Texas women’s tennis team continues action in Stanford on Sunday as they take on Fresno State at 1 p.m.
