Longhorns women’s tennis advances at Big 12 Championships

The Longhorns dropped the doubles point but won four singles matches Friday to defeat TCU in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla.

Bianca Turati defeated Seda Arantekin in three sets to clinch the win. She dropped the first set 1-6 before taking two wins in a row at 6-3, 6-4.

TCU won a singles match after the doubles action to take a 2-0 lead before Anna Turati made it 2-1 with a win at fourth singles.


The Horned Frogs came within a win of clinching the match when Sofiko Kadzhaya upset Neda Koprcina 6-4, 6-4.

The Longhorns won three straight matches to complete the comeback.

Petra Granic made it 3-2 with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Aleksandra Zenovka.

Daniella Roldan tied that match with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Donika Bashota.

Texas next faces top-seeded Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championships Saturday at 2 p.m.
