Texas women’s tennis team tops Mississippi State

Posted January 26th, 2018

The No. 12 Texas women’s tennis team defeated Mississippi State 4-1 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Berkeley, Calif. Friday.

The win sets up a match with host No. 11 California on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Longhorns dropped the doubles point, taking just one of the three matches. Four straight singles wins lifted the Longhorns to the win.

“Today we started three freshmen and three sophomores, and I was in awe of the way they handled the early setback with the doubles point,” said UT head coach Howard Joffe. “We look to perform well against Cal tomorrow.”

Fernanda Labraña and Marta Perez-Mur defeated Anastasia Rentouli and Sara Lizariturry 6-3 for the only doubles victory for Texas.

Texas tied the match at 1-1 when No. 10 Bianca Turati made quick work of Madison Harrison with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

The Longhorns took the lead for good when Bojana Markovic won 6-1, 6-0 over Rentouli.

Petra Granic, ranked 32nd, made it 3-1 with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Janina Braun.

No. 87 Anna Turati, twin sister of Bianca Turati, clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Magda Adaloglu.
