Katie Poluta wins twice at Debbie Southern Fall Classic

Katie Poluta won a pair of doubles matches alongside partner Lauren Gish of Vanderbilt to advance at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. Friday.

Poluta and Gish topped Eva Borders and Mary Hunter Hyche 8-4 to open competition in Flight 5 of the tournament. They followed that up with an 8-3 victory over Andrea Ballinger and Marybeth Hurley.

Petra Granic and Bojana Markovic, ranked No. 21 in the preseason Oracle/ITA doubles rankings for Texas, won 8-6 over Kenya Jones and Dilila Said of Georgia Tech. The Texas duo later fell to Mia Horvit and Ingrid Martins of Southern Cal, 8-4, while competing in Flight 1.

Tijana Spasojevic and Fernanda Labrana lost two matches in Flight 2 of doubles competition.

Granic, Markovic, Spasojevic, Labrana and Poluta all came up short in singles competition.

Doubles competition concludes Saturday.
