Bianca Turati fell to Maria Mateas, 6-4, 6-4, in the round of 16 at the International Tennis Federation pro circuit event in Florence, S.C. Thursday.
Turati fell behind 5-1 in the first set before winning three straight. Mateas broke Turati’s serve to close out the set, however.
Mateas, ranked No. 309 in the WTA world singles rankings, broke Turati to close out the match one set later. Turati entered the tournament ranked No. 474.
Other UT tennis players were in action in College Station Thursday.
Anna Turati, Bianca’s twin sister, won her match in the opening round of the ITA Texas Regionals. Turati defeated Stephanie Belovukovic of Houston 6-0, 6-2.
Petra Granic, seeded second at the regional, beat Sophie Gerits of Houston 6-4, 7-5.
Tijana Spasojevic also topped Elena Tairyan of Houston 6-2, 6-3.
Bojana Markovic beat Nicole Petchey of SMU 6-2, 6-2 while Fernanda Labraña won 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) over Vivienne Kulicke of SMU.
Katie Poluta also won, beating Jasmin Buchta of Lamar 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles at the ITA Texas Regional, the Longhorns came away with two wins. Markovic and Granic defeated a duo from Houston, 6-3 while Poluta and Labraña topped a team from Stephen F. Austin, 6-0.
