Bianca Turati took a straight-sets win to advance at the International Tennis Federation pro circuit 80k event in Tyler Tuesday.
Turati defeated Dalma Galfi 6-3, 6-0 in the final round of qualifying to move on to the 32-player main draw. The Texas junior, ranked No. 492 in the latest WTA world singles rankings, dealt the upset to the No. 1 seed in the qualifying round. Galfi currently sits at No. 283 in the WTA rankings.
Turati broke Galfi’s serve in the fourth game of the first set to take a 3-1 lead. After back-to-back breaks, Turati held serve for a 5-2 lead. The competitors held serve the rest of the way to close out the set.
The Texas junior dominated the final set after breaking Galfi’s serve in the first game.
Turati topped Anastasia Nefedova 7-5, 6-0 in the second round of qualifying Monday .
The tournament continues through Sunday.
