Longhorns fall to Aggies in NCAA women’s tennis

Texas finishes season with 19-5 dual-match record.

No. 18 Texas A&M put an end to the season for the ninth-ranked Texas women’s tennis team with a 4-1 victory in an NCAA second-round match Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center.

The Aggies improved to 24-7 in dual matches, and the Longhorns finished the season 19-5.

A&M got off on the right foot by taking the doubles point. Riley McQuaid and Lucia Quiterio beat UT’s Katie Poluta and Petra Granic 6-3, and Tatiana Makarova and Jayci Goldsmith secured the point with a 6-3 victory over twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati, ending their 11-match winning streak.


Fernanda Labraña and Tijana Spasojevic of Texas were up 6-5 on Katya Townsend and Renee McBryde when the Aggies clinched the doubles point.

In singles, Labraña recorded UT’s only victory, a 6-4, 6-2 sweep of McBryde. The Aggies got wins from Lucia Quiterio, 6-3, 6-3 over Spasojevic; Makarova, 6-2, 6-4 over Granic; and Katya Townsend, 6-3, 6-3 over Bianca Turati.
