Fernanda Labraña won twice Friday to advance to the singles semifinals of the Texas Invitational at the Texas Tennis Center.
Players from Miami, Rice, SMU, Tennessee and Texas A&M joined the Longhorns at the event.
Labraña first beat Callie Creath of Tennessee 6-2, 6-1. The Texas junior then received a walkover in the round of 16. Labraña topped Priya Niezgoda of Rice 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) in the quarterfinals.
Up next for Labraña is Jessica Anzo of Texas A&M on Saturday at noon.
Marta Perez Mur also claimed a win Friday but failed to advance. She defeated Isabella Tcherkes Zade of SMU 6-2, 6-2 in the consolation singles quarterfinals after falling in the round of 16. Perez Mur takes on Claudia Bartolome of SMU in the consolation singles semifinals Saturday.
Two Texas doubles teams fell Friday while the duo of Labraña and Perez Mur received a bye.
