The Texas Longhorns track and field team took a win as competition began at the Rod McCravy Memorial, hosted by the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington on Friday.
Texas won their second distance medley relay race in two tries as they finished in 9:52.07. They first won this year at last week’s Texas A&M Invitational. Spencer Dodds, Chris Irvin, Robert Uhr and Alex Rogers teamed up for the victory.
The Texas women improved on their distance medley relay time but came up with a fourth place finish. Mary Beth Hamilton, Raquel Tjernagel, Gabby Crank and Abby Guidry finished with a time of 11:28.07.
Charles Anumnu took sixth place in the men’s 200-meter race while Chrisann Gordon finished in 10th. Anumnu finished his race in 21.64 while Gordon clocked in at 24.04.
Steffin McCarter had the best individual showing for the men, taking second place in the long jump with a mark of 24 feet, 11 1/4 inches. Ika Morton finished in eighth place with a distance of 23-2.
Teesa Mpagi took seventh place in the women’s long jump with a distance of 18-7.
Sydne Fowler finished the 600-yard race in 1:22.43, a personal record. On the men’s side, Kirema Macharia finished in 1:13.10 for a seventh-place finish.
In the high jump, Spencer McCloud finished seventh for the men while Ashtin Zamzow tied for eighth place for the women.
