Posted May 18th, 2018

The Big 12 announced its outdoor awards for the 2018 season and UT’s Sam Worley shared Big 12 freshman of the year honors with Vernon Turner of Oklahoma.

Worley also won the fall season award as the top rookie.

The freshman set a facility record at the Big 12 Championships in Waco when he finished the 1,500 meters in 3:44.63. He’s the first Longhorn to win that title in the Big 12 since Leo Manzano in 2008.

His best time in the event was 3:40.00 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Worley also contributed to the distance medley relay team.

Wes Kitley of Texas Tech won the men’s coach of the year award while Cliff Rovelto of Kansas State took honors as women’s coach of the year. Divine Oduduru of Texas Tech and Kiana Horton of Baylor earned titles as men’s and women’s performers of the year. Aaliyah Miller of Baylor won the women’s freshman of the year award.
