Texas track and field squad begins NCAA Outdoor Championships

Tripp Piperi took fourth place in the shot put as UT began competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday.

Texas was 15th with seven points through one day. Georgia led with 20 points.

Piperi posted a personal best of 66 feet, 11½ inches.


Fabian Dohmann was seventh in the javelin at 231-7.

Sam Worley, John Rice and John Burt each advanced to the finals in running events. Worley qualified fourth in the 1,500 semifinals with a time of 3 minutes, 47.48 seconds. Rice also qualified fourth at 8:40.22 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Burt ran a 13.46 in the 110-meter hurdles.

Steele Wasik battled through injury in the first four events of the decathlon but withdrew after the high jump.
