Posted March 15th, 2019

The Texas track and field team kicked off the outdoor season with a pair of wins at the UTSA Invitational on Friday night.

Texas won both the men’s and women’s javelin event. Trevor Danielson took the men’s title while Camille Johnson won for the women’s team.

Danielson recorded a mark of 235 feet, 5 inches. He beat second place by more than 33 feet. That mark is good enough for the eighth best performance in school history.

Johnson posted a mark of 147-4 to claim the 10th best performance in school history. Katelyn Anderson took second place for Texas.

Elena Bruckner took third place in the hammer throw with a mark of 181-9. That’s the fourth best distance in school history.

A handful of Longhorns will compete in field events Saturday, with Virginia Preiss running in the 800 meters.
