Texas sophomore center Kelsey Lang was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday, as chosen by a media panel. It is Lang’s first career Big 12 Player of the Week award and the second consecutive for Texas Women’s Basketball — senior forward Nneka Enemkpali earned the accolade last week.
Lang averaged 19 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting .750 (18-of-24) from the field during Texas’ wins over UT-Pan American and No. 4/5 Tennessee. The win over Tennessee was UT’s second over a top-10 team this season and kept its record unblemished at 5-0.
The Woodlands, Texas, native posted a career-high 20 points with seven rebounds and a block in 27 minutes against UTPA. She then recorded a game-high 18 points with six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 34 minutes against the Lady Vols.
After five games, Lang leads No. 4 Texas in scoring (15.2 ppg), minutes (31.4 mpg) and field goal percentage (.632).
The Conference also honored Baylor’s Dekeiya Cohen as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Freshman of the Week.
The fourth-ranked Longhorns continue their six-game home stand on Wednesday against New Mexico at 7 p.m. Central. The game will be televised nationally on Longhorn Network.
