For the second straight day to begin 2015, Texas acquired a four-star defensive recruit.
Dallas Skyline outside linebacker Anthony Wheeler selected the Longhorns over Oklahoma during Friday’s Under Armour All-American Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Wheeler’s commitment comes one day after four-star cornerback Davante Davis of Tampa’s Booker T. Washington picked Texas over Florida State.
Wheeler is the nation’s No. 168 prospect and the No. 10 outside linebacker, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings of the industry leaders in recruiting. He plays the same position as Texas’ top recruit, five-star linebacker Malik Jefferson of Mesquite Poteet.
Wheeler (6-2, 225) checks in at No. 25 in the Statesman’s Fab 55.
Texas now has 24 commitments and could add to that total on Saturday. Four-star Florida prospects Devonaire Clarington (tight end) and Tim Irvin (athlete) will announce their college plans at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome.
